In an operation that took over 6 hours Wednesday, June 12th Samuel Rowland McLaughlin,III (Row) received a kidney transplant from his Mother Jennifer (Jenny) Michelle Vining McLaughlin. Row is the son of and Jenny the wife of former horse trainer Sam MCLaughlin. Both Sam and Jenny grew up in the horse businesses and both of their families have been involved in the horse business for many generations. The transplant took place at Vanderbilt Children’s hospital in the Rascal Flatts Surgical center. We are thankful to report that it appears the transplant was a success and the transplanted kidney is functioning perfectly. This morning Row is awake and aware. This morning Row’s labs show that his creatinine level is .04+ and prior to the surgery it was 5+. Currently,Row is in the pediatric intensive care and Jenny is in adult intensive care. The doctors anticipate that Jenny will be moved to a regular room later today and Row within the next 48-64 hours. Jenny is expected to be able to go home with in 5 days while Row is expected to stay in the hospital for 8-10 days. For the first 30 days following surgery his visitors will be limited to family only due to the chance of infection. The McLaughlin family sincerely appreciates the love, prayers and support it has received from their dear friends in the walking horse industry. We ask that you please keep Row and Jenny in your prayers.
