The WHTA Auxiliary works hard throughout the year, promoting the Walking Horse industry and giving back to the community. One way this is done is through their generous scholarships. The scholarship candidates must be involved with Tennessee Walking Horses and furthering his/her education. Each application is professionally evaluated and scored by several qualified professionals. Beth Thomas and Kari Tisma, both educators in Bedford County, are currently head of the Scholarship Committee.

The 2023 scholarship announcement was recently made at the Money Tree Classic. The Scoop congratulates this year’s recipients, Jessica Lawwell and Braxton Waddell.

Lawwell graduated from Community High School in May and has been accepted into the University of Tennessee Southern in Pulaski, Tennessee. She will pursue a career in Nursing and/or some aspect of the medical field.

Waddell completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Education at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, in May. This fall he will begin the master’s program at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He is excited to begin his teaching career at Cascade Middle School and is looking forward to obtaining a Master’s in Education and pursuing his coaching career.
