Press Release – Oklahoma Feed Donation

May 23rd, 2013 | By | Category: News

This morning, I was still reeling from the images of where there was nothing left of a 200′ long barn with 80 head of horses,

but the concrete hallway, not a post, nor stall front, or piece of tin…not even shavings. I felt there had to be something I could

do, then it dawned on me there was something WE could do. I made some phone calls to some members of the NCHA and a good

friend of mine that owns a cutting horse ranch not very far from the scene of devastation. My question was simple, can you find me

some good contact information on a way to distribute horse feed to those truly in need. In true cowboy fashion the response was simple,

“Get it out here and we will go feed them ourselves!” Of course we needed to do better than that and more phone calls were made, then

we started making some headway and as of tonight we are not yet done, we want to make sure that if we end up with 12 tons of feed, that

NONE of it gets stockpiled and ALL of it goes to people with horses that TRULY need it.

After making sure we could distribute it properly, and consulting my wife, who is the one who reminded me about how much I enjoyed

horses after 10 years of being without them, I posted a challenge on Facebook.

The challenge was for each of my friends to buy one sack of feed, a simple and easy $10 and when we received enough contributions for

a full load, we would have one of our trucks deliver it, free of charge, as our contribution to help the good people of Moore, Oklahoma.

Yet another series of calls were exchanged between Joe Green of Celebration Feeds and I, in an effort to figure out the best feed for the

horses in need, a way to receive donations, and a plan to get the ball rolling. Then my friend Wayland Long, owner of 2L Cutting Horse

Ranch and 2L Custom Trucks, brought to my attention that if we had large contributors, they would want it to be tax deductible and we

would need a 501.3c to make it happen. Immediately my first thought was F.A.S.T., a quick call to Heather Beard at L&M Awards, got

us a FAST response from Kathy Zeis and we were covered and PayPal was added, which further increased our ability to take more

donations from a wider range of people in a more timely fashion. Also Mrs Zeis was insistent that FAST contribute to the fuel cost, and

after a short disagreement, we accepted the offer. My status update on Facebook was a call to action and so far there has been an

overwhelming response……..to the extent that we may need to furnish more than one truck to get it all there. (That is a good problem

to have)

Long story short, The JW Morgan family and FAST are going to deliver to Moore, Oklahoma

as much horse feed as we can get donations to cover. FAST has been gracious enough to cover the fuel costs

with their donation. Celebration Feeds has discounted the feed and is willing to make a 20% match to your contribution.

This donation is coming from The Tennessee Walking Horse Industry as proof that we can all come

together as one in these trying times, there are no divisions, no wealthy, no poor, only people…….

who love horses and want to help. The rest is up to YOU!
