Avid Tennessee Walking Horse owner, breeder and exhibitor, Dr. John Lay, Sr. passed away on May 17, 2023. He was involved in the Walking Horse industry from the time he was a youngster of three years old, and he was still making deals this year in January.
His first Celebration was when he was 11 and he attended all of them except one, when he served his country in the Korean War. Donald Shubert and Bobby Adkisson of Savannah, Tennessee trained most of his show contenders throughout the years. Dr. Lay also played a role in putting on the Savannah Lions Club Horse Show for many years.
After a second hip break, Jane, his wife of over 66 years, made him stop showing. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren show his horses throughout the years.
A memorial service is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church, 270 Main St. in Savannah, Tennessee. The Scoop sends are deepest sympathies to the Lay Family.
