Herbert Henry McJunkin

Herbert Henry McJunkin, age 81, of Dallas, TX, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012 in Dallas, TX. He was born on February 10, 1931 in Dallas, TX USA to his parents, Mr. Herbert McJunkn Sr. and Mrs. Marguerite Jones. Herbert married Katherine Hopkins in Livermore, CA on August 2, 1955. They had 3 children. Herb graduated Highland Park High School in 1949 then attended Texas A&M and SMU, where he played football while completing his undergraduate and Masters Degrees in Geology. He served in the United States Air Force playing football and flying photo reconnaissance over Korea. After a few years in the oil and home building business, he founded Dal-Mac Construction and later Dal-Mac Development which together remained in business for over 48 years. His professional and civic duties included serving as a board member for Citizens State Bank of Richardson Texas, board member and past president of Richardson Chamber of Commerce, founding member for North Texas Commission (Richardson), board member for Association of General Contractors, Texas Health Presbyterian Plano board of directors, board member for Circle 10 Boy Scouts of America, He was past president for Big D Charity Horse Show, and served on various fundraising committees for Equest Hospitals and Universities, Mr McJunkin was also a founding member of Spring Valley Athletic Association, member and past president of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, past chairman of Byron Nelson Golf Classic. Herb wanted it known that he did not want to be remembered for his accomplishments and rewards, but to remember him for his service in the building and improvement of the local communities where he lived and conducted his business. Herb will be remembered by his loving wife and their children, son, Brad McJunkin and wife, Deborah, son Kirk McJunkin and wife, Cathy; daughter, Ellen Sale, six granddaughters, Kelly, Morgan, Grace Ann, Jena, Martha, Kate, and Keely. Three grandsons, Blake, Bert, and Herbert, one great-grandson, Isaiah, and a brother Jack McJunkin. He was preceded in death by Mary and Herbert McJunkin and Marguerite and Cecil Swindler. The family wishes to thank Laura Spurger R.N. and Community Hospice for their tireless and loving service. A memorial service was held for Herbert at 2:00 pm on Monday, December 10, 2012 at Highland Park United Methodist Church. The family received guests immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. The family requests memorials to the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, UT Southwestern, Community Hospice, or Highland Park United Methodist Church.
