Equine Obituary – Master Cruiser

Sammy, as he was affectionately called, was sired by Master Of Jazz and out of the Generator’s Sundrop mare, A Sun Drops Cover Girl. Sammy was bred by Donnie Headrick of Arrington, TN and entered this world on October 5, 2016. After a very short illness, he passed away on September 5, 2024.
For most of his life, Sammy was owned and loved dearly by the Andrews, and for all of his training and show career, he was cared for by the team at Dickie Gardner Stables. He was a very special horse to so many and shared blue-ribbon rides with numerous riders. Throughout his show career, Sammy collected an incredible 59 blue ribbons, and 45 reserve wins. His show career started in 2018 in the Yearling division. His final show was at this year’s 2024 WHOA International Grand Championships where he captured the Amateur Best In Show with Isaac McGee in the irons. Along with this win, he also earned a National Futurity win in 2019 with Victoria Jamison, a National Best In Show Grand Championship win in 2021 with Dickie Gardner, and numerous other blue-ribbon rides with owner, Kay Andrews.
The Andrews are so thankful to have owned and loved such an incredibly talented horse. The following is a statement Kay released on social media. “Thank you, Sammy (Master Cruiser) for being my special horse, for being the one that regained my confidence to get back in the show ring, and for being such a good and sweet boy. I will miss you so much and my heart is broken. Thank you to Dickie Gardner and family, Victoria Jamison and Michael Jamison for loving him as much as I did.” The Scoop will always remember Master Cruiser as a great champion.
