Equine Obituary – Fly Dragonfly

Jul 17th, 2023 | By | Category: News, Obituaries

Dr. Shannon Harr of Olive Hill, Kentucky has announced the passing of his 2022 World Grand Champion Fly Dragonfly. The nine year old stallion was humanely euthanized on Thursday, June 29th, due to severe complications of colic. He was trained by Formac Stables. Harr purchased his contender in 2020. Fly Dragonfly was shown in amateur and open classes. Last year, Shannon and Fly Dragonfly had the Celebration of a lifetime, when the duo earned a World Championship title in the Novice Gentlemen on Stallions division. They returned the following week and claimed the 2022 Novice World Grand Championship. Fly Dragonfly was also named the 2022 Novice Horse of the Year by the Walking Horse Trainers’ Association.

Shannon would like to express his gratitude to all the Fly Dragonfly fans for their support and kind words over the years, and especially during this difficult time of loss. He would also like to thank Dr. Richard Wilhelm and Dr. Blake Everett for the excellent medical attention they provided to Fly, as well as to the employees at Formac Stables, for their professional and exceptional care of the stallion. And as always, he extends a special thanks to Jimmy McConnell for the opportunity to own and show Fly Dragonfly, the horse he can only describe as a “once-in-a-lifetime horse”. The Scoop sends our condolences to the Harr Family, to Formac Stables and to all of Fly Dragonfly’s many fans.
