On Thursday, July 25th the United States House of Representatives successfully voted to pass the PAST Act legislation (Preventing All Soring Tactics). Before it becomes a bill, it has to pass the Senate.

Leading the sponsorship on the bill were the following: Chris Collins (R-NY), Kurt Schrader (D-OR), Ted Yoho (R-FL), Ron Estes (R-KS), Steve Cohen (D-TN) and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) while the Senate companion leaders are Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Mark Warner (D-VA). 333 votes were cast to pass the PAST Act and 96 votes opposed it.

The 2019 version of the PAST Act is the third revision presented to Congress, and is the closest it has ever gotten in the process of becoming a law. It is imperative that Walking Horse enthusiasts, owners and trainers contact their Senators and make them aware of the true facts and the tragic impact this law could have on the industry, as well as the state’s economy.
