Equine Obituary – Gus Malzahn

Mar 24th, 2020 | By | Category: News, Obituaries

Sarah Coffee Burks and Price Stables sadly announce the passing of Gus Malzahn. Gus was foaled on May 10, 2012. His sire was The Coach and he was out of a Jose’ Jose’ mare.

The stallion’s career began under the ownership of LaRue McWaters, but it didn’t take long for others to notice his talents. Rodney Dick was one of those who saw a great future for the young two-year-old and soon after, JoAnn Dowell and Susan Coleman were the new owners. During most of Gus’ career, Buddy Dick had the privilege of showing him, and in 2016 the powerful duo made a name for themselves in the Four-Year-Old division by winning blues at Manchester, Columbia, Woodbury and Walking For The Angels.

2017 brought on changes upon the passing of Buddy Dick. Taking over the saddle was Rodney Dick, and more blues followed. Gus Malzahn’s final show season was 2019 and his final horse show was the Walking For The Angels show. Susan Coleman had the honor of sharing his final blue ribbon with the talented walker after directing him to the win in the Trainers’ Auxiliary Members class.

There were new plans for Gus in 2020 as Sarah Coffee Burks recently purchased the show stallion and placed him at Price Stables with trainer, Nick Price. On February 23, 2020 Gus Malzahn passed away. The Scoop sends our warmest condolences to all who loved this beautiful and talented Tennessee Walking Horse.
